This means two processes' reckoning of the time since the reference may be different by multiples of 2^32 milliseconds. On Windows systems, the clock overflows after 2^32 milliseconds, which corresponds to roughly 49.7 days. Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 support the extended 64-bit tick counter, which allows avoiding the overflow. The TickCounter clock type is the only clock type that may overflow. If the high-precision performance counter is available on Windows, the PerformanceCounter clock type is used instead. This clock type is used on Windows platforms. The tick counter clock type is based on the system's or the processor's tick counter, multiplied by the duration of a tick. This clock type is used on Unix systems which support POSIX monotonic clocks ( _POSIX_MONOTONIC_CLOCK). This is the system's monotonic clock, expressed in milliseconds since an arbitrary point in the past. This is the only non-monotonic clock that QElapsedTimer may use. This clock type is currently only used on Unix systems that do not support monotonic clocks (see below). It's equivalent to the value returned by the C and POSIX time function, with the milliseconds added. The system time clock is purely the real time, expressed in milliseconds since at 0:00 UTC. This clock is monotonic and does not overflow. The high-resolution performance counter provided by Windows. The Mach kernel's absolute time ( macOS and iOS). The system's tick counter, used on Windows systems. The system's monotonic clock, usually found in Unix systems. The information on which clocks types may overflow and how to remedy that issue is documented along with the clock types. However, when extracting the time since reference from QElapsedTimer, two different processes in the same machine may have different understanding of how much time has actually elapsed. QElapsedTimer deals with this overflow issue and presents a consistent timing. Some of the clocks used by QElapsedTimer have a limited range and may overflow after hitting the upper limit (usually 32-bit). If comparing to values produced by other APIs, you should check that the clock used is the same as QElapsedTimer (see QElapsedTimer::clockType()). QElapsedTimer will always use the same clock, so it's safe to compare with the value coming from another process in the same machine. It is, however, possible to exchange the value with other processes running on the same machine, provided that they also use the same reference clock. These values should never be exchanged across the network or saved to disk, since there's no telling whether the computer node receiving the data is the same as the one originating it or if it has rebooted since. This is especially true if the time since the reference is extracted from the QElapsedTimer object ( QElapsedTimer::msecsSinceReference()) and serialised. On the other hand, this means QElapsedTimer values can only be compared with other values that use the same reference. Also unlike QTime, QElapsedTimer is immune to changes in the timezone settings, such as daylight-saving periods. This has the added benefit that QElapsedTimer is immune to time adjustments, such as the user correcting the time. QElapsedTimer will use the platform's monotonic reference clock in all platforms that support it (see QElapsedTimer::isMonotonic()). For this, QElapsedTimer provides the hasExpired() convenience function, which can be used to determine if a certain number of milliseconds has already elapsed: void executeOperationsForTime( int ms) The simplest example of such a case is for debugging purposes, as in the following example: QElapsedTimer timer Īnother use-case is to execute a certain operation for a specific timeslice. The typical use-case for the class is to determine how much time was spent in a slow operation. This means it's not possible to convert QElapsedTimer objects to a human-readable time. However, unlike QTime, QElapsedTimer tries to use monotonic clocks if possible. Its API is similar to that of QTime, so code that was using that can be ported quickly to the new class. The QElapsedTimer class is usually used to quickly calculate how much time has elapsed between two events. The QElapsedTimer class provides a fast way to calculate elapsed times.

Well, I do believe that it is an alternative, and I think the opportunity is pearl to promote the project, since Microsoft continues to screw up since I bought Skype. Once downloaded, it must be installed with the following command (replacing the package name accordingly): sudo dpkg -i Venom-0.2.bĮn Arch and derivatives: yaourt -S venom-git You have to download the corresponding deb package (32 or 64 bits) from the official project page. The rest, you can download the source code and compile it (there is a script that automates the whole process): Download TOXįinally, as an example, let's see how to install Venom, the TOX GTK client. OpenSUSE users can install it using 1 click install, selecting the version of the distro. utoxĮn Arch and derivatives: yaourt -Sutox-git Existing clients are listed at, and include:ģ2bit: wget tar -xvf utox / utox_linux_. However, being free software, anyone can build a client for Tox. Unlike other alternatives, such as Skype, Tox is only the protocol and the APIs necessary to use it. Messaging, video conferencing and voice calls.Point-to-point connection, without going through servers.Encrypted connection that guarantees your privacy. The developers of Tox indicate that this application will be available very soon, but the most impatient can use the mentioned source code to start testing. The idea is to facilitate access to this type of possibility in a much easier way, something that for now the clients that compete with Skype have not achieved. Free of configuration means that the user will simply have to open the program and without any account configuration they will be able to add people to their friends list and start chatting with them. The goal of this project is to create a configuration-free P2P replacement for Skype. The source code of the application is available at GitHub, and as explained there: Tox's options include being able to send messages –which are encrypted instantly–, make calls –also safe and free from Tox to Tox– or make video calls, also in a secure way and that again to some extent imitates Skype features and other VoIP services. A group of free software developers have long worked on Tox, a "secure messaging for all" service that has exploited the many suspicions generated by the discovery of the PRISM program and other government surveillance projects. Relationships should enrichen with age, that kind of thing.” “Never get bored with the fact that you’ve been with someone for a long time, it’s a good thing, not a bad thing. “This album here, it’s about making things last, how to keep that interest, how to keep the fire burning,” he explained. Talking to NME in 1992, Young gave some insight into the album’s subject matter. The dedication on Harvest Moon simply reads “For Pegi”. Those new faces joined drummer Kenny Buttrey, bassist Tim Drummond, steel-guitar player Ben Keith, plus Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor on backing vocals, to pick up where Harvest left off two decades before. Young is accompanied on the finished You And Me by Nicolette Larson on backing vocals, one of the additions – along with singer Astrid Young and keyboardist Spooner Oldham – to the band that made Harvest. Twenty years later, however, in its Harvest Moon incarnation, You And Me finds Young sounding haunted, singing ambiguous lyrics that seem to flit between an imagined past with the old flame who originally inspired the song and memories of his years with his then wife, Pegi. Back then, the nascent song shared the bittersweet feeling of one of the best Neil Young songs, After The Goldrush, in the way that it seemed to look back on a past relationship. Intriguingly, Young had been performing a snippet of You And Me as early as 1971, along with working versions of Harvest songs – as heard on the Neil Young Archives Official Bootleg Series release Dorothy Chandler Pavilion 1971, where a few lines from You And Me act a prelude to I Am A Child. Everybody was available it all happened real easy.” Luckily, there was no problem getting the guys together again. So it was the songs which dictated who I played with. I began to figure out which musicians to use and once I’d written down the various names and started calling them, I realised, This is the same band I used on Harvest. Then I wrote a few more songs until I had enough to start thinking about doing a session. “The first thing I did was to finish a song called You And Me, which I’d started writing in 1975. “Now that it’s created, it seems to be related to Harvest, but when I started work on it, I had no idea that it was gonna be like that,” he admitted. In a 1992 interview with Q magazine, Young explained how Harvest Moon became a sequel of sorts to Harvest. “This is the same band I used on ‘Harvest’” It’s unsurprising that the next music he’d make would veer towards a mood of quiet reflection. His mother, Edna, had died in 1990 and, after regular exposure to the brutal sounds he unleashed on the Ragged Glory tour, Young had started to suffer from hyperacusis – an intolerance to noise. There were factors at play other than Young’s instinct for the contrary. I think I pushed the envelope on that one.” I don’t see how much further than Arc I could go into a metal-crazed kind of expression. However, it provided a contrast that made total sense to Young, as he explained to Musician magazine in 1991: “That’s the way my life is – very extreme. “‘Harvest Moon’ is about making things last, how to keep the fire burning”Īn introspective work of subtle beauty, with a sound that harked back to Young’s best-selling 1972 album, Harvest, Harvest Moon couldn’t have been more different from his recent outings with Crazy Horse. While touring to promote 1990’s Ragged Glory, Young and his long-serving rock trio, Crazy Horse, were at their most fierce and wild, as evidenced by the following year’s live album, Weld, and its companion release, Arc. The early 90s had found Young embracing the grunge movement and enjoying his status as a noise-loving father figure to Pearl Jam and Sonic Youth. Typically, though, it represented a musical U-turn for the Canadian singer-songwriter. 1992’s Harvest Moon album became Neil Young’s most successful release in 20 years.

DisplayLink Announces New USB3.0 Apple Mac Driver and Showcases at CES 2013 Many times chicks in the same nest compete for food, and most often only the older, stronger chick survives. Their eyes remain shut for several days, and they are sparsely covered in downy feathers, so they need their parents’ care until they grow their plumage, at about 10 weeks of age. Once chicks hatch, both parents bring them food. Only the mother does the incubating until the chicks hatch the father is in charge of bringing food to her. Most macaw pairs breed once a year, and the female lays her eggs in a nest inside a tree hollow or in a dirt hollow on a cliff face. The bond is so strong that even when the pair flies with a large flock, the two stay close together, with their wings almost touching. The pair reinforces its bond by preening each other’s feathers, sharing food, and roosting together. This close relationship is called a pair bond. When adult macaws choose mates, they usually stay together until one of them dies. Macaws usually live in pairs, and after the nesting season, in family groups. Scientists believe the soil may neutralize any toxic chemicals the birds might eat in seeds or unripe fruits. This makes the nuts softer and easier for the macaws to eat! Macaws also visit riverbanks and cliffs made of clay soil, which they eat. The cattle eat the palm nuts, which pass through their digestive system and come out the other end with the nut’s hard coating removed. One trick they use for this is to forage in fields where cattle live. Some specialize in eating the hard fruits and nuts of palm trees. Macaws eat a variety of ripe and unripe fruits, nuts and seeds, flowers, leaves, and stems of plants, and sources of protein like insects and snails. Once everyone is settled, they quiet down, fluff out their feathers, and prepare to snooze through the night. The sitting arrangement can change from day to day! Sometimes squabbles break out, but macaws rarely physically injure each other. Shortly before or after dusk, macaws all take wing again to return to their roosting site, where they call to each other to figure out who sits where. In fact, macaws fly as far as 15 miles (24 kilometers) each day to feed. They feast until midday, when they settle down for more preening and "chatting," then forage more in the afternoon. Then, as a group, they fly up out of the trees to journey to the day’s feeding grounds, often traveling quite a long distance to a grove of trees with ripe fruit. They usually wake before dawn, preening their feathers and calling to one another, perhaps communicating where they are and what they plan to do next. Macaws live in pairs, family groups, or flocks of 10 to 30, which helps give them protection from predators like large snakes and birds of prey. One of the outstanding natural sights in Mexico and Central and South America is a large flock of colorful macaws bursting up from the forest canopy in flight. Their calls can be quite earsplitting to humans! Macaws can also imitate sounds, and macaws that live with or near humans often repeat words they hear, practicing to themselves until they get it right. They do it to make contact with one another, to define territory, and even as part of their play. Most macaws like to take baths, and they play in the water as they splash around. They can do impressive damage to even very hard wood with their beaks. Macaws are also big chewers, something they need to do to keep their beaks in good shape. They examine the objects from different angles, moving them with their feet, testing them with their tongue, and tossing them around. Macaws have been known to use items as tools, and they like to play with interesting objects they find. As social birds, they spend a lot of time interacting with their mates and their family groups. They are very aware of their surroundings, which is necessary to keep watch for predators. Macaws are intelligent and curious birds that like to explore and keep busy. Most macaws nest in holes of trees or in earthen banks and cliff sides. When they come in for a landing, they drop their tail and feet downward and use their wings like brakes to slow down before grasping a perch with their feet. Macaws are adapted for flying through the trees in the forest, with a streamlined body and tail shape and wings that don’t flap deeply. They are also famous for their bright colors, which seem bold and conspicuous to us but actually blend in well with the green leaves, red and yellow fruits, and bluish shadows of the forest homes. Loud, screeching and squawking voices help make their presence known in dense rainforests. Their strong, agile toes are used like hands to grasp things. Their large, strong, curved beaks are adapted for crushing nuts and seeds. What makes a macaw? Macaws are king-sized members of the parrot family and have typical parrot features. If an error is found or unexpected behaviour is detected, it warns the user about the current situation and also can perform appropriate actions (for example, start an automatic backup). Hard Disk Sentinel runs in the background and verifies SSD / HDD health status by inspecting the SMART status of the disk(s). The Professional version has scheduled and automatic (on-problem) disk backup options to prevent data loss caused by not only failure but by malware or accidental delete also. This way even a small HDD problem can't be missed. HDSentinel is the perfect data protection solution: it can be effectively used to prevent HDD failure and SSD / HDD data loss because it has the most sensitive disk health rating system which is extremely sensitive to disk problems. Also it measures the disk transfer speed in real time which can be used as a benchmark or to detect possible hard disk failures, performance degradations.
